As the recently elected chair of the reconstituted Redbridge Cycling Campaign, I would like to invite you to our next meeting this Monday at Fullwell Cross Library at 7.30 pm where we will be discussing several campaign initiatives and events we plan to held over the next few months.

Liveable Neighbourhoods

Redbridge Council was recently awarded more than £3 million in funding from TFL to transform Ilford Town Centre and make the approach to Ilford more accessible. This will enable the council to create segregated cycle lanes for safer travel and bridges for pedestrians and cyclists over the River Roding and Aldersbrook.

Improved access to open space along the river Roding valley and cycle links to Wanstead, Stratford, Barking and Essex are also part of the transformational scheme to reduce car use, improve air quality and turn local areas into safer, greener and healthier places for Londoners to live. We will work with the council to ensure that this is a success.

Dangerous Emissions at Fullwell Cross

Additionally, we have recently been taking readings outside Fullwell Cross Library over the recent bank holiday weekend regarding nitrogen oxide (NOx) readings from vehicle emissions. The results were alarming.

The NOx) limit breaches show that readings outside Fullwell Cross Library in Ilford North recorded readings up to 90.5 micrograms per cubic metre, compared with the 40μg/m3 limit set out in the government’s air quality objectives. Lars Davidson, who took the measurements, will be explaining his findings.

King George and Queen’s Hospital Charity Bike Ride – Sunday 12th May 2019

The 2019 event will raise much needed funds to refurbish the Main Bereavement Suite and viewing rooms at Queen’s Hospital. These rooms are very sterile, clinical rooms and can make a final farewell all the more stressful for families and friends. They are in need of marshals. Redbridge Sikh Vasaikh Charity Bike Ride – Sunday 12^thMay 2019

Also, Redbridge Cycling Campaign will also be proud to support this annual event in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society – which we have supported for 19 years in succession. The event is in need of Marshals for this year’s event. We will supply LCC bibs. It starts at 8am. Member ride from George Green (Wanstead) – WF Mini Holland Sunday 26^thMay (14:00)

Waltham Forest Cycling Campaign  volunteers have run walking and cycling study tours of the borough’s transformative Mini Holland active travel programme for many groups of campaigners, officer and politicians. Redbridge Cycling Campaign’s next meeting is at 7.30pm on April 8 at Ilford Central Library (Clements Road, Ilford IG1 1EA).

We’ll be tweaking the priority activities we agreed at the last meeting, and then move on to progressing those we collectively agree are most important.

Following on from our exploratory ride and workshop at the start of the month, we’re holding a meeting on 18th March to identify some of high priority activities we want to progress.

There have also been 2 big developments in Redbridge in the last few days. Firstly yesterday’s news that Redbridge Council have been successful in winning funding from Transport for London for a Liveable Neighbourhood in Ilford Town. And secondly that the council is consulting on its Local Implementation Plan.

If you want to see better conditions for cycling in Redbridge, and have time to come to our meeting to offer your support, we’d love to see you.

As part of our relaunch we’re running a cycle tour to experience the best and worst that Redbridge has to offer people who cycle.

Whilst this first tour will be based around Wanstead, we’re keen to hear of any other locations that you particularly like or hate, so we can run further rides in future,

Redbridge Cycling Campaign is relaunching in March 2019, with 2 events for people who’d like to see safer cycling in the borough.

First up on Sat 2nd March 2019 is a 1 hour bike ride looking at some of the best and the worst cycling conditions in Redbridge, followed by a 2 hour workshop where we’ll be discussing our top campaigning priorities & projects.

We’ll also spend a some time on the most dangerous spots we encountered on our morning ride, identifying what we want the council to do about them, and before the meeting has ended we will have submitted a formal request to the council for action.

Free refreshments including pizza.

Just over 2 weeks later at 7.30pm on Monday 18th March, we’ll host a second meeting to follow up on progress, and get our new activist team rocking & rolling.
